Moraira – Costa Blanca
Moraira is a charming coastal town on the northern Costa Blanca, belonging to the municipality of Teulada. Once a small traditional fishing village, it has developed into a popular holiday destination while successfully retaining much of its relaxed Mediterranean character.
At the heart of Moraira is its attractive marina and fishing port, surrounded by restaurants, cafés and bars overlooking the Mediterranean. The town centre has a welcoming, easy-going atmosphere, with boutique shops, traditional Spanish restaurants and lively terraces perfect for watching the world go by.
Moraira’s coastline is one of its biggest attractions. Playa de l’Ampolla, conveniently located close to the town centre, is its main sandy beach, while Playa del Portet sits in a beautiful sheltered bay and is particularly popular for swimming and relaxing. Smaller coves dotted along the coastline provide excellent opportunities for snorkelling and exploring the clear Mediterranean waters.
One of Moraira’s best-known landmarks is the Castillo de Moraira, an 18th-century fortress overlooking the seafront that once helped protect the coastline from pirate attacks.
The surrounding countryside is filled with vineyards, almond trees and traditional landscapes, while nearby Teulada provides a glimpse into the area’s historic past.
Popular with both visitors and international residents, Moraira combines beautiful beaches, excellent restaurants and stunning coastal scenery with a relaxed, friendly atmosphere. It is an ideal destination for anyone looking to enjoy the quieter side of life on the Costa Blanca.
Moraira shares several celebrations with the wider Teulada-Moraira municipality; the exact dates of some events vary from year to year.
Main Fiestas in Moraira
- January – Three Kings / Reyes Magos – The traditional Epiphany celebrations and arrival of the Three Kings.
- February/March – Carnival (Carnaval) – Costumes, music and family activities, with the date depending on the Easter calendar.
- March/April – Semana Santa (Holy Week) – Easter religious celebrations and processions across Teulada-Moraira.
- June – Corpus Christi – A traditional religious celebration featuring a procession and traditional dances.
- June – Moros y Cristianos (Moors & Christians) – One of Moraira’s most spectacular fiestas. The town comes alive with elaborate costumes, music, gunpowder, mock battles and impressive Moorish and Christian parades. In 2026 the celebrations ran from 5–14 June, culminating in the Gala Parade.
- 23 June – Noche de San Juan – Celebrated on L’Ampolla Beach, with traditional bonfires and midnight celebrations beside the sea.
- July – Fiestas Patronales de Moraira – Moraira’s main summer fiestas, held in honour of Nuestra Señora de los Desamparados and Virgen del Carmen. The biggest days are 15 and 16 July, with processions, music, street celebrations and fireworks.
- 16 July – Virgen del Carmen – Particularly important because of Moraira’s fishing heritage. One of the highlights is the beautiful maritime procession, when the Virgin is taken out to sea by boat, followed by aquatic fireworks.
- August – Festa del Moscatell – Celebrates the area’s long tradition of growing Muscat grapes, with local wine, food, music and traditional activities. This is principally held in Teulada but celebrates the heritage of the wider Teulada-Moraira municipality.
- November – Mig Any / Half-Year Moors & Christians – A smaller celebration marking the halfway point to the following year’s Moros y Cristianos festivities.
- December – Christmas & Three Kings festivities – Christmas activities, markets and seasonal events take place throughout the municipality, with Moraira also hosting its traditional Christmas sea swim and San Silvestre race.
